Living room/kitchen 3d model

The Process of 3d Modeling

In 3DS Max, I started with creating a cube that was roughly to scale with an average height person. Using measured dimensions of the actual room, I layed out the floor plan and added the walls.

The rest of the process consisted of isoloting basic geometry and creating the kitchen features, chairs, tables and such. I carefully orientated everything in their appropriate spots. I made sure to slightly rotate or move each object in random positions as to make the scene feel more natural.

After that, I added the smaller details like cutting board, plates, cups, cabling, speakers and tv. Once all the objects in the room were modelled, I gave everything their own material. Some objects had nearly the same material, so I made sure to share materials when needed.

I added a checker map to each object, double checked all the materials, then exported the scene into Keyshot.

The remaining process was adding materials to each object, providing a lighting environment, then exporting everything to Photoshop. From there, I removed any excessive rendering noise, added an ambiant occlusion layer, and inserted an appropriate background that would match my lighting. Futhermore, I added godrays to the windows, a lens flare, an appropriate filter and touched up any remaining objects using the clown layer.

What I learned

Through these projects I learned how to:

  • Use 3DS Max 2022 to model an accurate representation of a given space

  • Used Keyshot to add appropriate lighting to scene and provide all necessary textures to each model.

  • Used Photoshop to touch up noise, added a background, added god rays, a lens flare, and use the clown layer to adjust object hue/saturation.
